What is this project about?

A PDF-based QR menu service for restaurants. I built the project to be the simplest possible way for restaurants to provide a digital menu after hearing countless times that restaurants don't have the time for competing solutions. With this solution, the restaurant owners simply create an account, upload their menu, and print their QR code! Another important differentiation is the one-time-payment it provides. The most common feedback for other solutions is that they don't see enough value in QR menus for monthly payments to be worth it,  you pay once and own it for life.

What is the tech stack?

It is built entirely with NextJs for the API and frontend, and uses Tailwind + TailwindUI for the styling. The database is MongoDB Serverless. Menu files are hosted on Digital Ocean Spaces. The application is hosted on Vercel. Transactional email through Mailgun. Other emails through Gmail with ForwardEmail.

Costs to run: ~$6 / month

Most of the application is running for free, allowing the service to charge low prices. Currently the only things that cost money is Mailgun which is pay-as-you-go so nearly $0, Mongo Servless which is pay-as-you-go so nearly $0, and Digital Ocean Spaces which is $5/month. If you transfer to AWS S3 then that will also be nearly $0 and you can basically run the application for free.

How can the buyer take this project further?

Marketing is key. You'll need a way to reach restaurants especially those not using a QR menu service or those using expensive ones.
